President Yameen’s PPM government will utilize the immense opportunities and avenues created by the monumental and ambitious redevelopment of Velana International Airport (VIA) and domestic airports, and revolutionize the tourism sector through innovative initiatives, attractive incentives and diversified products, while maintaining brand Maldives’ edge in the global market, to achieve unprecedented growth in tourist arrival numbers and revenue.
We will increase annual tourist arrivals to 5 million within the next 5 years.
We will develop Huvadhoo Atoll as a major (10,000-bed capacity) tourism zone served by an international airport outfitted with full seaplane facilities.
We will stimulate growth in the northern most atolls of the Maldives by developing an international airport in Ihavandhippolhu and by establishing Ihavandhippolhu as a tourism zone with thousands of tourism beds and a seaplane hub.
We will develop a 3000-bed capacity integrated tourism project in Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu Atolls.
We will develop Faafu Atoll as an integrated tourism hub for the global elite.
We will inaugurate Maldives as an international surfing destination by developing an artificial surf zone on the eastern side of the Hulhumale’ Youth City ensuring year-round surf and plentiful employment for local youth.
We will develop an integrated tourism zone with an international theme park in the Male’ Region.
We will develop an International Cruise Terminal and yacht marina in Hulhumale’ and develop facilities for visitors in Male’, Hulhumale’, and the Greater Male’ Region.
We will develop high-end city hotels, retail and entertainment complexes in Male’ on the land divested by our proposed relocation of the Male’ Commercial Port.
We will spread the benefits of tourism for all by developing tourism enclaves for guest house/city hotel tourism in all major atoll capitals.
We will provide general infrastructure, maintain and protect beaches on islands with high potential for guesthouse tourism development.
We will continue to develop a network of domestic airports that will connect the country with the main international gateways, to ensure that benefits of tourism is shared by all.
We will establish a participatory employment benefit scheme for those working in the tourism industry that allows participants to tap 100 million annually towards housing finance, investment finance, hire purchase, etc.
